Sept. 20 is National Public Lands Day - a perfect opportunity to give back to your favorite trails. Maintenance projects are scheduled throughout the country. In Nevada, you can lend a hand on the Tahoe Rim Trail. For more info, contact Shannon Raborn of the Tahoe Rim Trail Association at 775-298-0012. Beaver Creek Resort in Colorado announced a ban on extreme downhill mountain biking, citing a desire to focus on hiking and cross-country riding. The Vail-owned ski area no longer allows riding on non-designated trails or at speeds in excess of 20 miles per hour, regardless of trail width and condition. Other resorts in Colorado, including Vail, Steamboat and Purgatory are considering or have already closed some trails to downhilling.

The IMBA-affiliate Highlands Cycling Club in Butte, Montana, has pledged support to the U.S. Forest Service, providing a match of in-kind labor for a Recreational Trails Program grant application. The club will donate at least 400 hours of trail labor to the Beaver Ponds Trail in the Butte Ranger District of Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest.

Look for the IMBA/Clif Bar team at this year's 24 Hours of Adrenaline race in Winter Park, Colorado. In addition to racing round the clock, the IMBA crew will be running a non-stop booth selling memberships, swag and other goodies.
