Illinois mountain bike clubs have joined forces to create the Illinois Mountain Bicyclist's Coalition (IMBC). The organization's mission is to improve and enhance Illinois trail advocacy efforts. The IMBC will work closely with IMBA state representatives in three regions to interact with local government officials and deal with regional issues. The Mid America Trails and Greenways Conference will take place Sept. 21-24, 2003, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The conference includes presentations about how to introduce mountain biking to existing trail systems, and field trips to nearby trail systems. Before the conference, the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew will lead a Trailbuilding School at Westwood Park on September 20, 2003. For more info visit: www.indygreenways.org/conference/index.html
Following an extensive environmental analysis and public input process, the Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association began refurbishing the popular Rock Lake Trail in Wisconsin's Chequamegon National Forest. Restoration will take two years to complete. When finished, the trail will offer mountain bikers access to more than 15 miles of new singletrack. Funding for this $30,000 project came from the US Forest Service, Quality Bicycle Products, Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival Save the Trails contributions and private donations. More info:
