In Bellingham, Washington, REI awarded the Whatcom Independent Mountain Pedalers a $1,000 REI Conservation Grant. The grant will fund maintenance and upgrades to the club's trail tool supply.

In Seattle, the Backcountry Bicycle Trails Club's (BBTC) consistent work with the Sun Top trail prevented the Forest Service from closing the route. The BBTC is also developing an urban mountain bike park in downtown Seattle, working to reopen trails at Moran State Park, and rebuilding the Preston Trail at Tiger Mountain, a popular riding area 30 minutes east of Seattle.

Final planning is underway for the Bottle Prairie/Knebal Springs trail relocation in the Barlow and Hood River Ranger Districts of the Mount Hood National Forest. The reroute will replace a section of road with five miles of singletrack. Local equestrian and mountain bike groups are involved in developing the area's growing network of trails by helping sign and maintain them.

Opponents to mountain bikers are trying to close trails to cyclists at Lake Oroville, California. Mountain bikers are asked to send comment letters to support the multi-use designation of these trails. Please contact IMBA rep Jim Haagen-Smit at for more info.
