Members and land managers invited to attend
IMBA will host its first-ever European Trailbuilding School September 24-26, 1999, in southwestern Switzerland. Jan and Mike Riter, the trailbuilding experts who have served for the last three years as Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew No. 1, will be the school's chief instructors.
The school is designed to teach the latest techniques of trail design, construction and maintenance to European mountain bikers, land managers, government officials and members of the press. New, effective methods have been developed to construct and sustain trails that are not only durable, but fun to ride and walk. These techniques, which have already been introduced in Europe by the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew during two previous visits, need to be shared, publicized and implemented on trails around the globe.
The school, which is open to the public by advance registration, will be held at the High Lake Institute (Institut Haut-Lac) in Les Sciernes d'Albeuve, Switzerlandabout 70 miles northeast of Geneva. IMBA utilized the Institute in '97 for its Global Advocacy Summit. In addition to being a spacious facility in a beautiful setting, the Institute is surrounded by trails that will be available for the on-the-trail portions of the Trailbuilding School.
The registration fee, $150 U.S. (approx. $160 ECU), includes two nights lodging, six meals, instruction, and all course materials. Registration will be limited to 60. The school will be conducted primarily in English, with supplemental materials available in French, Spanish and German.
